 The application for The Robert Reynolds Memorial/Insurance Club of Pittsburgh Scholarship Award can be found on the newsletter portion of this website. The scholarship is sponsored by the Allegheny Chapter CPCU Society and Independent Insurance Agents of Pittsburgh for a member’s son/daughter or grandchild in the amount of $1,000.00 to be awarded at I-Day on Thursday, April 22, 2010.
Please read the application carefully due to certain criteria that is necessary for the application to be considered eligible. One award will be given to a son/grandson or a daughter/granddaughter of a current member during our luncheon program on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Pittsburgh Hilton. All applications must be completed and returned to the Insurance Club of Pittsburgh NO LATER than March 31, 2010. Our committee will review all applications based upon SAT scores, Grade Point Average, Class Rank as well as, Social/Community and Extracurricular activities. Once our committee reaches a decision, we will notify the winner and request the honor of their presence, along with their parent(s)/guardian, at our luncheon program for the award presentation.

 UPDATE FROM THE MILE HIGH CITY
Annual CPCU meeting in the "Mile High City" was a great success!
The convention was filled with networking and cutting-edge information. Talking with people, we discovered their biggest challenge was choosing from among the great educational seminars available to them. They wanted to attend them all!
Congratulations to the new CPCU designees. There were about one thousand that received the prestigious designation. Looking ahead, next year's convention will be in Orlando, Florida at the downtown Marriott (Orlando World Center), September 25-27th, so mark your calendars.

Job Summary

The UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full time workers compensation risk manager for its downtown Pittsburgh Chatham Center location. This individual will work daytime hours Monday through Friday. The primary focus of this position will be the successful execution of consultative based servicing and risk engineering services to clients.
In addition, on-site visits of existing and prospective customers will be conducted and comprehensive reports will be completed that evaluate hazards and controls for adequate risk selection, pricing, and application of underwriting techniques leading to profitable growth. This includes the identification of exposures with significant loss potential, investigation of cause/effect of major loss control and hazard safety programs, and service planning and implementation of service commitments with larger and more complex risks. Develop safety programs as required and carry out all safety related functions, to foster a safe and healthy work environment and reduce injuries. |

Responsibilities |
| |
- Conduct Risk Identification and Risk Analysis assessments for commercial Workers Compensation insureds to identify loss producing conditions and practices. Provide successful loss prevention and safety services to those accounts.
- Develop and implement effective loss prevention and safety management plans in order to reduce risks. These plans will include safety training courses as training needs dictate to ensure that insureds get the most current information in subjects that they need for the prevention of injuries.
- Coordinate with insureds to ensure safety training is conducted effectively
- Collect, analyze and report data related to injuries that occur to identify trends in accident frequency and severity, providing clear and meaningful reports to underwriters and claims personnel.
- Provide assistance to Claims in the tracking and reporting Scorecard and review Scorecard with insureds. Assure that appropriate reporting, treatment, immunizations, recordkeeping and
- Coordinate with insureds in addressing safety and health concerns of unsafe conditions or unsafe behavior. Address such matters with insureds, underwriting, and claims.
- Develop and coordinate the activities of management safety committees.
- Attend all meetings and facilitate direction to ensure effectiveness and accomplishment of goals.
- Work with insureds to develop effective Return To Work Programs for injured employees |

Basic Qualifications |
| |
- BA/BS Occupational Safety and Health, Physical Science or Risk Management.
- 5-7 years of field loss control or increasing levels of responsibility in related operations.
- High level of skill and competency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Demonstrated project management skills. |

The Chapter Holiday Luncheon would not have been a success without the

Steve received his insurance license in 1980 and specializes in employer group benefits. Steve has been an agent with Byham's Insurance Services, Inc. in Meadville, PA since 1996. Prior to joining Byham's, he spent ten years helping to develop and administer two regional Managed Care companies, and served as Vice President of Marketing for both. Steve is also an approved instructor who teaches Continuing Education classes for Pennsylvania insurance agents.
Steve is very active in the health insurance industry. He is currently serving his third term as the President of the northwest PA chapter of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU), and also serves as the Secretary for the Pennsylvania Association of Health Underwriters (PAHU). Since 2006 he has participated on three national health care committees under NAHU and has helped to create two presentations that have been shared hundreds of times across the United States.
In June 2008, Steve was announced as the recipient of the NAHU (National Association of Health Underwriters) William G. Wetzel Excellence in Public Speaking Award. The Wetzel award annually honors one member of NAHU who has demonstrated excellence in public speaking by giving presentations that educate and/or deliver important information to members, industry colleagues, public officials and/or the public. Steve was recognized for the numerous presentations he gave throughout 2007 on health care reform, universal health care, and single-payer health care systems.
