I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with their family and friends and are ready for an even better 2018.
2017 was a successful year for the Allegheny Chapter as we welcomed new designees, enjoyed each other’s company during the annual golf outing, had a sellout All Industry Day at Rivers Casino, and much more.
The accomplishments of 2017 would not be possible without the dedication and contribution of several key people, including Al Vaina – the Immediate Past President of our Chapter. Al led our group of Officers throughout the year and coordinated the Christmas Luncheon. Al always has a smile on his face and shows enthusiasm for our industry. Thank you, Al, for your continued support and commitment to our industry. I appreciate your guidance throughout the 2018 year.
Mike Mayer is our current President-Elect. In 2017, Mike was responsible for coordinating the Annual Golf Outing that is held at Meadowink. Mike did a fantastic job and kept attendance at a high level. This year, Mike is managing All Industry Day, which will be held at Rivers Casino. Please pay particular attention to the Schedule of Events later in the Chaptergram, as there are some timing changes for events this year.
A special thank you goes out to George Krauss who acts as our All Industry Day consultant. George is instrumental in the success of this important event. Thank you, George.
As always, Sally Krauss continues to be a big supporter of the Chapter. Sally is our Treasurer this year. Thank you, Sally, for always going the extra mile for our Chapter.
Marilyn Wood is the Chapter Webmaster, and even though she is happily enjoying retirement, she very generously volunteered to serve as our Vice President this year. You will be hearing from Marilyn later in the year as she plans the annual golf outing.
A final thank you goes out to Kelly Maines. Kelly supports the Golf Outing in a variety of ways, from registration, to taking pictures, watching the contest
holes, selling 50/50s, coordinating prizes, etc. This day would not be a success without Kelly. Kelly, thank you for doing so much for the outing and the Chapter in general.
We are pleased to welcome Seth Young as Secretary this year. Seth was installed at the Christmas Luncheon and graciously agreed to join our team this year.
So how can we top such a successful 2017 in 2018?
There is a renewed focus on Society membership retention and recruitment. We are instituting a new initiative whereby each Officer will be reaching out to prior members to solicit their reenlistment. As active members of our Industry, I ask that each of you consider reaching out to your colleagues and friends who hold the prestigious CPCU designation but are not active members and suggest they join us this year.
We are excited to continue our traditional events, such as the Joint RIMS/CPCU Event, the Annual Golf Outing, All Industry Day, and the Christmas Luncheon.
We will continue to emphasize diversity in all of our meetings, communications, and events. Diversity provides valuable opportunities to learn from different perspectives. The Society recognizes this and continues to promote it throughout its membership.
We are equally enthusiastic about possibly introducing some additional events, such as a Volunteer Day and 1 or 2 after hour mixers. We will keep you posted on the progression of these events.
We are also researching the possibility of speaking about the CPCU designation and our industry at some of our alma maters. Stayed tuned for more to come!
We have big expectations this year, but I have no doubt we will have a successful year with our current Officers and members. I encourage you to reach out to any of us with questions, comments, constructive feedback, etc. so we can work to make the Chapter the best it can be.
Cheers to 2018!
